A film about how container ports destroy neighborhoods and damage air quality is now available from the Galveston Bay Conservation and Preservation Association (GBCPA).
Alarmed by conditions he saw when he visited the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles as part of a GBCPA study, land use planner Peter Brown recommended filming the situation. The film is titled "Container Ports: Lessons from Long Beach."
It depicts traffic gridlock, decaying middle-class neighborhoods, and huge container yards where businesses used to be. Citizens of the California communities affected are frustrated at the high-handed actions of the port authority and its lack of responsiveness to their needs.
The film is available at no charge for screening to community groups.
